The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will be opening this spring at the Universal Orlando Resort and they released more details about it Tuesday. The $265 million, 20-acre park will be located in Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando, Florida. After J.K. Rowling released the mega-popular books and then movies, Universal secured the rights to a theme park in 2007. The opening date has not been released, but is scheduled to open sometime in Spring 2010.
The actors of the film have been giving rave reviews of the park. Tom Felton told the New York Times, ““We always say on set, ‘If this place was real, it would be absolutely fantastic, to actually walk into this world and be able to touch it and taste it and smell it – well, it’s just going to be fantastic.”
Visitors will be able to put themselves into the books and relive what their favorite characters did. They have been working hard to ensure all aspects of the series, both books and movies, are incorporated into the park. There will be a variety of rides, stores and restaurants including Hogsmeade Station, Hogwarts Express, the Owlery, the Owl Post, Ollivander’s, Dervish and Banges, Zonko’s, Honeydukes, Three Broomsticks, Hog’s Head and Filch’s Emporium of Confiscated Goods. All of the scenery will be based on the series, allowing visitors to visit inside and around popular places including Hogwarts Castle.
Each of the rides attempts to recreate some of the highly popular stories to life. The Dragon’s Challenge ride will be twin high-speed roller coasters representing the Triwizard Tournament. The Flight of the Hippogriff is a family roller coaster, allowing guests to soar the skies over Hogwarts castle grounds. Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey is a new-age ride that brings the magic and characters to life.
