EDITOR’S NOTE: “Healthy Pick and Makes Me Sick” is a weekly column where we look at the menu for a popular chain restaurant and pick the best, and worst, items on the menu.

As we squeeze the last few days of heat out of those summer months and into fall, you may be tempted to take your kids for a cold, creamy treat.  Short of blending some frozen fruit with a little honey or agave in your food processor (shh…don’t tell my kids), you might be struggling to find a healthy choice for a frozen dessert, especially at your nearest scoop shop.  Here’s what to pick and what to pass on at Baskin Robbins:

Healthy Pick: Single Scoop of Daiquiri Ice

A full size scoop of Daquiri Ice is a fantastic choice at only 130 calories and NO fat!  Because it’s dairy free and a special treat, I’ll ignore the fact that it has 34 grams of sugar.

Makes Me Sick: Large Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Shake

Oh, friends.  It’s with a heavy heart that I inform you that this shake is nutritionally comparable to a medium pepperoni pizza:  1690 calories and 72 grams of fat!  With 46 grams of saturated fat and 195 grams of sugar, it might not be a bad idea to have a cardiologist on speed dial when downing this shake.

My food processor trick isn’t looking so bad now, is it?
