The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Big Lots Stores, Inc. have issued a voluntary recall of about 20,000 “Wooden Bunk Beds” sold at Big Lots stores throughout the country. The mattress support slats and side railings can be broken which could result in the bed collapsing and injuring anyone on or around it.
The bed set was imported from Vietnam and sold nationwide from May 2008 through February 2009 for around $300. Big Lots has received 14 reports of the slats cracking and then breaking and four cases of minor injuries. The recall applies to model numbers WP-9108-1 and WP-9108-2 and includes beds sold with a three step ladder. To find the model number look on a sticker located on the bed’s interior panel of the headboard or footboard.
The Commission and Big Lots are urging all consumers to stop using immediately and to contact Big Lots to arrange return of the defective parts and receive a free repair kit. For more information please call 866-244-5687 or visit their website at www.BigLots.com
