Disney made a huge announcement on Good Morning America last week. Beginning in January 2010, if you volunteer a day at a participating organization, you will receive a pass for a free day at a Disney theme park. It’s as simple as that! Give a day of your time and you will be rewarded with a free day at Disneyland or Walt Disney World! They are calling the program, “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day.”
Disney is hoping that offering this incentive will get people out to volunteer at great organizations in their area. With people out helping, they are hoping it will create a “pay it forward” mentality and begin a chain reaction of helping others.
When the program goes live in January, you will be able to check the Disney Parks website for a complete list of organizations participating in “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day.” The pass you will receive after your day of volunteering will be good for one day at either theme park, Disneyland or Walt Disney World.
What a great way to get kids involved in their communities! Kids will be must more willing to learn about helping others when they find they will earn a free day at Disneyland in the end. Hopefully after they see how rewarding it is to give back to their communities, they will continue to volunteer. For families that haven’t had the means to take a family vacation, this could be a great way for them to earn passes for each family member, leaving only the expense of airfare and hotel.
