“Sports Memories in the Making,” by Jeremy Suede, is a weekly column that looks at all the sports for the upcoming week and picks out games and events that might just be special enough to create a moment that you and your kids will share forever.
Wow. This MLB postseason is shaping up to be one of the best in years and we haven’t even gotten to the World Series yet. With high drama in pretty much all games, each has had its own moments that will be talked about for years to come. Great sports entertainment.
This week doesn’t offer much besides the baseball playoffs really. A weak schedule of games for both college football and the NFL (baring any surprises) make for a very watered down weekend depending on how the baseball games pan out.
Top 3
1. MLB – A.L.C.S. Game 3 – New York Yankees at Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim – Oct. 19, 20, more if necessary
The Angels have made some costly mistakes and it has cost them the first two games of this American League Championship Series and they are down 0-2 in the best of seven series as of Monday morning. The Yankees have hit them hard and so did the weather while they were in New York. Strong winds, freezing rain and cold temperatures won’t be a problem in sunny southern California though and the Angels will have their home crowd there to back them in this must-win situation. The Yanks know better than anyone that a three games to none lead is not a sure thing but it is a commanding lead and the Angels would be hard pressed to come back from that deficit.
2. MLB – N.L.C.S Series – Los Angeles Dodgers at Philadelphia Phillies – Oct. 19, 21, more if necessary
This has been a tough series so far for both teams. They split the two games in Los Angeles as both came down to the wire with very dramatic moments. The Dodgers’ starting pitching didn’t hold up for Game 3 in Philadelphia and as of post time the Phillies held a 2-1 lead over the Dodgers. Will the Dodgers be able to answer back with at least one win in Philadelphia to make sure the series goes back to Los Angeles? The Phillies are looking to repeat as World Series Champions and the Dodgers are looking to exact some revenge for last years defeat and get to the World Series for the first time in more than two decades.
3. NASCAR – TUMS Fast Relief 500 – Martinsville Speedway – Oct. 25 – 1:43 pm
Jimmie Johnson continues to prove that he is the best driver on the track today and perhaps one of the best drivers ever to race. Jimmie has won the his last two events in the Sprint Cup Series and is pulling ahead of the pack down the homestretch to his 4th consecutive Sprint Cup. He won this race last year so look for him to continue that streak as well and his consecutive win streak. If you haven’t seen him drive yet, you and your kids should sit down and watch this race. Not only will you witness greatness but NASCAR has the coolest features out of any sport to watch the race with. You’ll get inside the car, hear what the racers are saying to their crews and get race analysis and stats in real time. It really is something to see.
