daiso-toy-MDDaiso, along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has issued two recalls encompassing many of their toys due to lead paint and possible choking hazards.  The recalls affects more than 10 different products and consumers are urged to return the products to their place of purchase for a complete refund.  On all toys, Daiso is printed on the packaging.

Recalled for Lead Paint and Phthalate Limits

  • Balancing toys in the shape of dragonflies
  • Children’s purses in the shape of the head of a lion, front or bear
  • Children’s purses with stripes
  • Children’s pen cases shaped like a piece of candy with stitching “cool ice cream,” “sweet cake,” or “fad hamburger” on the front
  • Inflatable baseball bats with “Home Run” printed on the side

Recalled for Choking Hazard

The product is called “Wooden Toys” and it involves four models:

  • Penguin Handbell
  • Pull Doll
  • Alligator Pull Toy
  • Rolling Animals

The Penguin Handbell has a small metal bell inside its hollow interior. The Pull Doll’s limbs move up and down when the string is pulled. The Alligator Pull Toy is green and yellow will move in an undulating fashion when pulled. The Rolling Animals are in the forms of a dog, rabbit, cat and mice, and their tails are connected to their bodies by metal springs.

All products involved were sold in California stores from March 2008 through May 2009 for about $2.50 and so far no injuries have been reported.
