In what could make an interesting plot for a movie, Sandra Bullock and husband Jesse James (of “Monster Garage” fame) are involved in a child custody battle over James’ five year old daughter, against James’ ex-wife porn star Janine Lindemulder.
Lindemulder had previously been in prison, serving time for tax evasion. Now that she’s been released, she has been campaigning to retain custody of her and James’ child. Lindemulder has made claims that Bullock’s only reason for pursuing custody stems from her inability to have a child herself, which Bullock denies. “I know the term ’stepmother’ carries many connotations, one of them being ‘glorified babysitter’,” she says. “My commitment and responsibility to [the girl] … goes beyond that.”
Bullock has claimed in the past that she has had no interest in having children of her own, but lately she has been saying that she regrets this decision. That may or may not have anything to do with her motivations in this issue, but if no other reason, at least she is supporting her husband. Obviously, reports of Lindemulder’s pornography history and dodgy association with convicted felons is an even stronger reason for the couple to seek custody.
Thousands of children live without homes or families of their own in America. Wanting to have a child does not necessarily mean giving birth yourself; adoption is a venerable option. Sandra Bullock may not have come into this relationship to be a stepmother, but it sounds as though she’s enjoying herself.
