Every Tuesday, KidGlue presents “Healthy Pick/Makes Me Sick” where Sarah Matheny takes a popular restaurant’s menu and uncovers the most healthy and least healthy items on the menu. This week: Taco Bell.
Call me stupid, but I’ve voluntarily taken on the task of finding something I would eat that would be a healthy choice at an establishment that in my house is known as “Taco Hell.” As far as fast food Mexican goes, there are definitely healthier options. I envision only two scenarios in which I might ever eat at Taco Bell: one involves heavy drinking and late night desperation and the other involves a firearm and my temple. Still, if you or your kids want to “make a run for the border,” there are definitely some menu pitfalls and lesser evils.
Makes Me Sick: Nachos Bell Grande

“Grande” is right: that’s what your cholesterol count and your bootay are going to be after indulging in these calorie bombs. 760 calories and 42 grams of fat make this “Fifth Meal” a terrible choice.
Healthy Pick: Bean Burrito

Short of just sucking “mild sauce” straight out of the packets, this is what I would eat at Taco Bell. With only 350 calories and 9 grams of fat, you definitely could do worse. For example, a taco named after a casino game: Black Jack Taco, anyone?
