KidGlue Crafts: Candy Mosaics

By Sarah Matheny on November 11th, 2009

It’s the beginning of November, which means that the days are getting rainier and colder and you’ve likely got a big pile of leftover Halloween candy stashed in your cupboard somewhere.  The kids are bored, and you can’t wait to be rid of the sugar stockpile that is likely the bane of your existence, unless of course the Treat Fairy already paid you a visit.

Never fear, I’ve got a solution for bored kids and abundant candy:  Candy Mosaics!

Materials:

  • Heavy white paper or poster board
  • Glue
  • Candy (anything but Reese’s, which you’ve already eaten anyway)

Separate the candy into piles or small bowls by color.  Help your child think of an idea of what to create.  For younger children, assist them by making small dots of glue in the shape of a design on their page.  Then, allow them to place the candy on the paper.

Remind your kids that it’s okay to eat a few pieces of candy with your permission BEFORE they have glued them to the paper, but afterwards, they are inedible.

Ha! How did you know I already ate the Reese’s??

Love this project…. although I’m not sure my M&M loving daughter would agree!
