If some of you have felt that my warning to parents about strange animals was a bit too harsh, allow me to provide a welcome catharsis with this page of videos of dogs welcoming their soldier owners home from deployment.
Witness the unbridled excitement as the pups race around, unable to contain their own energy, leaping and frolicking, throwing up clumsy paws to embrace men some of them haven’t seen in months. These are animals who have loved and been loved in return. Their emotions are palpable, and no less strong for being non-human. And if that weren’t enough, there’s a final clip at the end that will have you weeping openly.
What is it that makes a family? Is it mere biology? Is a family nothing more than people who are directly related to each other? Absolutely not. A family is made up of the people who have taught each other, stuck with each other, helped each other, and in the end, chosen to give their love to each other, regardless of age, race, and in this case, even species. Distance cannot break these ties, nor can time. If you have a loved one committing service for our country, keep the home fires burning for them. If you are a soldier doing your duty, remember those waiting at home for you. It’s family that makes this country strong.
