Easton Sports, along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has issued a voluntary recall of all their  bicycles with EA30 Stems.  This stem can crack and cause the rider to lose control, posing a risk of serious injury to anyone riding.  So far there has only been one reported incident of minor injury but Easton Sports is cooperating to make sure no others occur.

The EA30 stems are black with white-and-gray graphics and feature a four-bolt stem face cap. “EA30” is printed on the stem. EA30 stems sold as aftermarket items are included in this recall.  Independent bicycle dealers nationwide from August 2007 through August 2009 for between $500 and $1,200. Aftermarket stems were sold from August 2007 through September 2009 for about $30.

Easton and the CPSC are urging anyone who has purchased a product with these stems immediately cease use and contact any authorized Easton Sports dealer for a free replacement.  You can contact Easton Sports at 866-892-6059 or visit the website EastonBike.com
