What’s the worst that could happen this Thanksgiving?
You go to pop the turkey in the oven and it’s still frozen.
You turn your back for a second, and Sparky is licking off the skin.
You carve the bird at dinner and it’s pink inside. Or gobbles.
Got a turkey emergency? The ButterBall Turkey Hotline is here to help.
ButterBall employees have been working over time since 1981 on Thanksgiving to help you with all of your turkey needs.
If you think you are too proud to ask a stranger for help with cooking the perfect turkey dinner, take a gander at these calls the ButterBall crew have fielded in Thanksgivings past:
Many callers take the old wives tale to heart, and ask how to pop popcorn inside of the turkey.
One mother called after discovering her children had hidden some toy cars in the bird’s cavity before cooking and wanted to know if it was still safe to eat.
One man wanted tips on how to carve his turkey with a chainsaw.
One women called in a panic after losing her turkey in a snowbank.
Here’s my fave: in 1993, a woman called for advice on how to get her puppy out of her turkey. The tiny Chihuahua crawled into the birds cavity, and became stuck. With a careful eye and steady hand, she carved a bigger opening for the pooch to escape.
So, this year, if the stuffing is a little chewy, or the gravy gets a skin, just be thankful your dog isn’t trapped in your main course.
