Allstate Insurance, (who is my car insurance company- woot!) has launched a new campaign against texting and driving called “X the TXT.” Texting while driving is extremely dangerous and on the rise, causing accidents, distraction related injuries and collisions, and deaths, especially among teens.
According to statistics released by Allstate, texting and driving results in car crashes that kill an average of 11 teens deaths each day from accidents, 330,000 distracted driving injuries every year and makes drivers 23 times more likely to have an accident.
The “X the TXT” campaign encourages teens and parents to pledge they will not text and drive. Since driving without a hands-free device is against the law in most states, people are resorting to texting, which is quicker and easier to hide, but highly more dangerous, as your eyes must leave the road numerous times.
Since texting and driving is so prevalent amongst teens, Allstate teamed up with 19-year-old American Idol alum, singer Jordin Sparks and her mom Jodi, who both lent their thumbprints to a banner as a symbol of their pledge.
“Unfortunately, it can be easy to forget the dangers of texting and driving when you get behind the wheel,” Jordin said. “That’s why it is important for teens, their friends and families to acknowledge its risks and pledge together not to do it. I’m glad to take this public pledge with Allstate, because sending a text isn’t worth taking a life.”
The banner is currently on a 30-city tour across the country, gathering thumbprints along the way.
I really encourage you to head the www.Allstate.com/teen with your teen and make sure they understand the dangerous for everyone on the road when they text and drive. Then pledge, together, to never text and drive again.
