When I was little, my parents used to get frustrated with me on Christmas, because I was always most excited for my stocking- not my big gifts. I don’t know if it was because of the variety, or the volume of gifts in one little stocking, but it was always so much fun to pull out gift after gift, no matter how tiny.
To make sure your kids don’t just toss their stocking to the side for the bigger exciting stuff, fill their stocking with little, fun and inexpensive gifts they will love.
Chocolate Oranges
- These little chocolate oranges are so much fun- not only are they delicious, but in order to get the sections apart, your child has to whack the orange on a hard surface to break it apart. Then, when they open it up, viola! Perfectly sectioned chocolate orange slices.
Socks
- Not boring, tube socks, but fun socks your kids will actually love to have. There are many kinds out there, perfect for winter: socks with bright colors, sectioned toes, ones with little no-slip treads on the bottom, or socks decorated like animals. The crazier, the better.
Nail Polish
- Nail polish is the perfect size for a stocking, and you can’t go wrong with any color you choose. Make sure you have some remover on hand, depending on your child’s age, or skill level (I still can’t paint my nails without making a mess.)
Journal with Pen
- Boy or girl, your child will be excited to have their own little journal. Whether they use it to write down their secrets, doodle, or create their own stories, it will spark hours of creativity.
PJ Pants
- You can find cute, inexpensive PJ pants for both boys and girls that come wrapped in little coils that fit perfectly into a stocking.
Gift Cards
- Buying a gift card is the perfect gift for your young child. While most adults see it as a cop out, remember that kids don’t have their own money, so gift cards give them shopping freedom which can make them feel more adult. The card itself isn’t the gift, it’s the special day where you take your child to the store and they carefully pick out exactly what they want, and get to pay for it all by themselves.
Bath Time Toys-
There are tons of toys that make bath time fun. For the young ones, bath crayons are great fun, and older kids will enjoy shrunken wash cloths that come in a pellet, but when dropped in water, expand. Teens will love bath bubbles and fizzes.
Reading Accessories
- Bookmarks, clip on book lights or head lamps and book jackets are great for a book fan (or to try and make reading more appealing to someone that’s not.)
Earbuds
- These are perfect for everyone: every kid likes music, and even your gamers can use a new pair of earbuds to play their games and give you some piece and quiet. There are a lot of different styles, like jelly or sparkly, and there are even earbuds that look like little M&Ms and Jelly Bellys.
A Special Ornament-
Make it a tradition to give your child a special ornament for the tree each year. Pick one out that reminds you of something that happened that year, or something that is completely unique to them. Your child will look forward to it each and every year, guaranteed.
