The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission along with Proctor & Gamble Co. have issued a voluntary recall of more than 700,000 packages of Vicks Dayquil Cold & Flu 24-Count Bonus Pack Liquicaps because it does not properly state that it is not child-resistant.
The Poison Prevention Packaging Act created standards and if the product does not meet all standards it must say “This Package for Households Without Young Children” clearly on the package. The Dayquil packaging does not have this and that is the reason for the recall.
The medicine comes in orange packaging with the green Vicks symbol and has the following UPC#: 3 23900 01087 1. No other Vicks product is included in this recall. The product was sold in various drugstores and retail stores nationwide between September 2008 and December 2009 for about $5.
The C.P.S.C. recommends keeping the product out of the reach of children but if the product was purchased with the expectations of it being child-resistant than they should contact Proctor & Gamble for a refund or replacement coupon. The product itself may continue to be used as directed.
For more information and refund requests, contact Proctor & Gamble at 800-251-3374 or log onto Vicks.com
