Every year I look forward to ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas. Sure, I’ve seen just about every show before, but that’s what makes me love the tradition. I know I’ll get to see just about all of my holiday favorites. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town or A Charlie Brown Christmas! Here are my top ten picks that you simply must watch every year.
‘Twas the Night Before Christmas – Hickory, dickory, dock, the mouse broke the clock! Will Christmas be coming to Junctionville?
The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus – Should the man who loves giving toys to children be granted the Mantle of Immortality?
Jack Frost – The ice-boy falls in love with a mortal and tries to win her affections under the oppressive rule of Kubla Kraus.
The Little Drummer Boy – An orphan discovers that there really is something to love in humanity and learns to give of himself.
The Year Without a Santa Claus – Santa’s sick and three of Mother Earth’s sons vie for the delivery job.
Frosty the Snowman – Magic, music, and Jimmy Durante – who knew a pile of snow could be so much fun?
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer – The most famous underdog (deer) triumphs story of them all.
Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town – A group of toy-making elves find a baby on their doorstep. It’s the Episode I of Kris Kringle.
A Charlie Brown Christmas – Charlie Brown bemoans the commercialism of Christmas, but Linus and the gang show him that deep down, they do remember what Christmas is really about. One of the best recitations of any story ever is given by Linus.
Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas – The definitive Christmas special. If the fantastic narration, timeless music, and the cutest Who you’ve ever seen don’t get you in the Christmas spirit, you are the Grinch.
Yes, I have an affinity for Rankin/Bass specials. I dare you to list your top 10 without including at least one claymation classic!
