It's originally a French carol and has nothing to do with Catholics being oppressed by a non-Catholic government. If it was to teach Catholic doctrine, why would it have been only for Chrsitmastime? Most importantly, if it was only Catholic, why aren't any of the precepts exclusive to Catholic teaching, instead of *shared* with nearly all of the other Christian sects? False!
