grandTheftAutoBoston police say a frustrated mother called 911 when she couldn’t get her son to quit playing his video games and go to bed.

Police spokesman Officer Joe Zanoli said the mother called for help around 2:30 a.m. ET December 19 to report her child would not quit playing Grand Theft Auto when asked, and then walked around the house and turned on all the lights, no doubt infuriating her with threats of raising her electric bill. Two police officers were dispatched to the house, and were able to convince the boy to obey his mother and go to bed.

So there you have it, folks. If you can’t do your parenting yourself, call 911 and get the cops to do it for you.

Kids love their video games, and not surprisingly, are reluctant to give them up.  Some even claim that video games can be addictive, as dangerous as drugs and alcohol, leaving kids isolated and distant as their social lives and grades plummet.

Up to 90 percent of American youngsters play video games and as many as 15 percent of them, according to the American Medical Association (AMA) may be addicted.  Yes, “addicted” is a strong word, and yes, some would call it a habit, but excessive play is definitely an issue, especially if other aspects of your child’s like suffer because of it.

Of course, it’s hard to tell, as most teenagers are moody, sullen and reclusive, but chances are, if you have to call the police to get your child to put down the controller, its time to reconsider having a console in the house.
