Every Tuesday, KidGlue presents “Healthy Pick/Makes Me Sick” where Sarah Matheny takes a popular restaurant’s menu and uncovers the most healthy and least healthy items on the menu. This week:  Jack in the Box.

Their ads are cute.  Their prices are cheap.  But is Jack in the Box just your average greasy fast food burger joint or are there some healthy options on their menu, aside from an iceberg lettuce salad with a packet of low fat ranch?  You can definitely make or break your New Years’ Resolutions at this drive-thru.

Makes Me Sick: $3.49 Jumbo Deal

Jumbo is right.  That’s what you’ll be if you eat this “meal” of a Jumbo Jack Burger, two tacos, fries and a drink.  Why do you need a side of tacos to go with your burger and fries?  The stats are not surprising: 1236 calories, 66 grams of fat, 2178 milligrams of salt.  The meal is being marketed at college kids, but I’d rather have my kids take their chances at the cafeteria than to listen to a clown for dietary advice.

Healthy Pick:  Grilled Chicken Fajita Pita

If you are into eating Mexican food from a burger joint, this really isn’t too bad of a pick.  With 326 calories, 10 grams of fat and 23 grams of protein, you’ll get a filling and somewhat healthy meal.  Skip the fries and plop your pita on top of a side salad for some extra veggies.  I’ll still make a stiff argument, though, that the best thing to come out of Jack in the Box are their commercials.
