‘Lost’ to Replace ‘Tom Sawyer’ at Disneyland? Seems Dangerous

Lost-LastSupper-LGRecently an online petition was started to try and get the Imagineers over at Disney to add a “LOST” theme island to one of the many Disney theme parks, possibly by changing “Tom Sawyer’s Island.”  Disney can do this because they own the ABC Network which runs “LOST” and the Tom Sawyer theme has been pretty unpopular for years and in need of a renovation.  As a big fan of “LOST” I would love nothing more than to explore an island where a smoke monster could pop out and terrorize me at any moment as I look for The Hatch.

But as a big fan of Disneyland (well used season pass in my wallet right now) I do not think “LOST” has any place within the walls of The Happiest Place on Earth. I love going to Disneyland and just being there. It’s bright and colorful and full of happy themes that you could show any child and they could relate and have a good time.  Where else can you ride with singing pirates, cruise the jungles of the world and blast around space all at one place?  There is nothing there that I would be hesitant to engage a child about or not be able to show them.

“LOST” is one of the best shows to come to television this decade and I live for it during the season.  I anticipate each week’s episode until it comes on and then curse the TV when it ultimately ends on some evil cliffhanger only to go through the whole thing again the next week.  The story lines are smart, character driven and they keep you interested and wanting more each and every time.  But the characters deal with things like murder, alcoholism, drug addiction, torture and sex.  These things make up a great television show but they really have no place at an amusement park meant for small children.

Just think of some of the possible “highlights” on the “LOST” Island Tour:

  • “Now over there Billy is where Paulo and Nikki were bitten by poisonous spiders and then buried alive.”
  • “Oh look over there Susie! That’s where Sayid and Jack tied up Sawyer and ripped his fingernails out. ”
  • “Come on kids! Let’s go take pictures of all the places where Kate has had sex with someone.”

These sort of things might end up on The Island and that doesn’t belong at Disneyland.  It does need a theme park of its own but just not within Disneyland.

What do you think?  Would you take your kids to The Island of “LOST?”

I agree completely. It would be crazy! I hope Disney doesn't consider this.

Maybe people at Disneyland should check carefully what made Disneyland so great in first place.
