Dr. King was a great man and I believe the African American has not been treated with respect but there is one problem with what he said. As I said the African American has had many years of injustice yet there are a group of people suffering even more injustices and they are the Native American Indians. They were Americas first people and they were slaughtered lands taken, forced to live on government reservations in homes not fit for a dog with no jobs and their children were taken off the reservations to goto white schools were their hair was cut and they could not speak their own language. When the Constitution & Declarration of Independence were written they said all men are created equal and possess the inalliable rights of live liberty and the pursuit of happiness. All men means just that African American, Native American, Chinese American, Japanese American, Mexican American and Caucasian Armerican live together in respectful dignity which at this point we don't but I am hoping that this will happen not only here in the U.S. but throughout the world. Thank you Dr. King for sharing your dream and showing the world how to stand up to rules they don't believe in! Be well everyone!

Michael, I agree completely. I meant color-blind in regards to ignoring color in our selection of friends, but certainly not ignoring culture. Thank you for elaborating for me!

"Color-blind friendship" is perhaps not what we should be striving for, as this might imply ignoring our differences entirely. Friendship that embraces the diversity around us is more powerful because it is precisely our differences that can add to deeper friendships and richer understandings of our world. How about if we think of ideal friend selection as a process that doesn't ignore color, but doesn't use color as a way to prejudge who a person is, either?
