1.5 Million Graco Strollers Recalled Because of Amputations

By Crystal Arcand on January 20th, 2010

The Graco company voluntarily recalled 1.5 million strollers and travel systems in the Passage, Alano, and Spree lines early Wednesday. The recall comes after seven reports of injuries to children involving the canopy hinges of the strollers. There have been five fingertip amputations and two lacerations reported.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission urges families that own these strollers and travel systems to stop using them immediately and request their free protective cover kits from the company. Parents can determine if the stroller they own is part of the recall by checking the CPSC website.

To receive a stroller hinge repair kit, contact the Graco consumer service line at 800-345-4109. It is estimated to take up to two weeks for kits to arrive. Once the repair kit arrives, parents can use the online repair tutorial to ensure that the repair is done correctly.

Please look carefully at the pictures below to give you an idea of what kind of hinge you are looking for to determine if you need to request a free repair kit. If you feel your stroller might be a danger to yourself or your child, please stop using it immediately and request a free repair kit. As much as it may be a pain to be without a stroller or travel system for a couple of weeks, your child’s little fingers are so worth the wait and trouble.
