More than 2 million Toyota cars may have faulty gas pedals, which may stick, and are being recalled by the manufacturer. Toyota Motor Sales USA investigated and found that the pedal can stick if there is no floor mat down. Here’s what they had to say for themselves this time:
“Our investigation indicates that there is a possibility that certain accelerator pedal mechanisms may, in rare instances, mechanically stick in a partially depressed position or return slowly to the idle position,” Toyota USA group vice president Irv Miller said in a statement.
Anyone who owns one of the affected cars will be notified but Toyota wanted to assure consumers that they may still drive their vehicles because the problem develops over prolonged use. The vehicles are too new to already have the problem but it could happen.
The possibilities of this happening are rare but Toyota is already embroiled in talks over a cover up with a previous recall of 4.2 million vehicles for having floor mats that could cause the gas pedal to stick. Sounds like Toyota is have lots of difficulties with their gas pedals and floor mats. Take a look at these videos for some explanation.
This recall includes the following:2009-2010 RAV4, 2009-2010 Corolla, 2009-2010 Matrix, 2005-2010 Avalon, 2007-2010 Camry, 2010 Highlander, 2007-2010 Tundra, and 2008-2010 Sequoia.
The previous recall affected Camry and Avalon sedans, the Prius hybrid, the Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks, and the luxury Lexus models IS250, IS350 and ES350.
