Thirty year old Lena Bryce had been trying to get pregnant for four years. Like so many couples in a world where women wait longer and longer to start trying to conceive, the Bryce’s were considering drastic measures - IVF, adoption, extensive (and expensive) fertility treatments and more.
Then Lena’s husband, Dudley, gave her an iPhone for her 30th birthday. She typed in “get pregnant” at the App Store and voila – five apps, ready to help her in her quest. Lena chose the Free Menstrual Calendar. This app highlighted her most fertile days in bright pink. In two months she was pregnant. Nine months after that she gave birth. The REALLY crazy part? Not only did the Free Menstrual Calendar find her perfect fertile moment, it predicted her child’s birthday. Exactly.
Now, did Lena really need an iPhone app to figure out what days she’d be fertile? Sure, she could have tracked this information herself, but part of fertility is stress, and the easy assurance of “my iPhone can do anything” may help just as much as a nifty digital calendar that can predict the birthdays of children future. It may also serve to eliminate a lot of time spent with fertility doctors, and a lot of money thrown into the fertility game.
Don’t worry, the App Store won’t abandon you once it’s gotten you pregnant. There are also apps for tracking the stages of pregnancy (Due Date Calc), keeping a record of contractions (Birth Buddy), and tracking feedings and sleep cycles once the baby’s born (Baby Tracker).
Not on the hunt for the pitter patter of little feet at the moment? There’s an app for that too. Lady Biz keeps track of things like periods, cramps, intercourse, OB/GYN appointments, weight, exercise, vitamins, etc.
The mystery of life, perhaps not such a mystery any more, thanks to the iPhone.
