NewMonopolyBox2010 bring the 75th anniversary of the classic game, “Monopoly.”  A few years ago “Monopoly: Here and Now” was created to bring the classic game of “Monopoly” up to speed with the times.  But all it did was change the property names and the amounts of money.  Now, Hasbro has done a complete overhaul from the board to the money system with a modern design.

“Monopoly: Revolution” will be released in the Fall and a whole new style of “Monopoly” will be introduced.

Gone is the square board, being replaced with a round board with the properties being sections of it (think of a pie chart).  Gone is the paper money and instead, a credit card system run electronically.  Gone are the awesome metal piece (car, top hat, dog, etc) and we now have plastic slabs.  While these may have been staples of the classic game, Hasbro felt that an almost complete change would be best.  “Monopoly” will always be one of the best family games and these changes should not affect that.

NewMonopolyBoardThat may be cool and new but I for one am going to stick to the original version with a square board and paper money.  The money was half the fun.  When else are you going to be able to accept $2000 cash from your Mom and laugh as you took your brother’s stuff when he went bankrupt?  These little pleasures in life will not be forgotten though, Hasbro has said that the classic game will still be readily available.
