Cecilia Cassini, like a lot of ten year olds, is a big fan of sequins and enormous bows. And purple. Unlike most 10 year olds, Cecilia is busy touring designer tents at Fashion Week in New York City.
Cecilia has her own fashion line and is making news all over the world as “the youngest fashion designer in America.” Cecilia got her first sewing machine from her Grandmother at age six. In the intervening four years she has taken a few sewing lessons, but she’s primarily teaching herself to sew, and to design.
She seems to be succeeding. At her first trunk show she sold fifty pieces in three hours to a host of eager young girls. Fans of her work include Denis Richard’s daughters. Cecilia has also been lucky enough to catch the eye of a growing number of journalists including CBS News and the Los Angeles Daily News. Her big debut will come in April when the Today Show airs the story their in the process of shooting about Cecilia.
Cecilia views her creations as “masterpieces” because “each dress is unique and one-of-a-kind just like the Mona Lisa and Chanel’s chains.” But Cecilia doesn’t see the point in waiting to grow up to unleash her genius on the world – school is priority number one, but she’s still got plenty of time to sew.
Cecilia is represented by Kim Kardashian’s former manager (who is also a friend of Cecilia’s mother). Her agent helped her launch her line and got her designs a place in the Tough Cookies children’s boutique in Los Angeles. Cecilia says that she’s about to be sold in another big store, but she can’t yet say which, so stay tuned!
