VIDEO: Canadian University Plays Biggest Dodgeball Game Ever

By Jeremy Suede on February 19th, 2010

While the 2010 Winter Olympics are being played in Vancouver, University of Alberta students decided to go for their own place in the record books. 1,200 students and faculty got together and organized the world’s largest game of dodgeball on February 5.  The previous record was 450 people (held by San Diego State University) so the bar has been raised significantly and anyone looking to break the record will have their hands full.

From the video it looks like it was a whole lot of fun too.  They simply split into two teams (green and gold) and just played the game until there was a winner.  Seemed to me that they were on the honor system so good sportsmanship must have been used by each side which makes the game all that much better.  When all was said and done the gold team proved victorious but everyone who participated enjoyed themselves, no one got hurt and a new record was set so you couldn’t ask for much more.

Check out this video to see the game edited down using time-lapse footage and participant interviews.  Perhaps your kids will be inspired to bring the championship back to the U.S.
