“Model, author and Emmy-nominated host of Top Chef Padma Lakshmi gave birth to a baby girl named Krishna Thea Lakshmi on Saturday” Padma’s rep told Access Hollywood. “Mother and baby are well and happy.”
The Top Chef host may have kept her baby’s gender to herself, but she hinted at her child’s beautiful name in a January issue of People Magazine: “I am going to name the child an Indian name. It will be after someone in my family, so don’t expect to see an Anglicized name – it will be a classically Indian Sanskrit name.”
Padma has also kept Krishna’s father’s identity private. Speculation abounds, Padma remains firmly quiet on the subject, and firmly single. Though Padma was married to “Satanic Versus” author Salman Rushdie, the two divorced in 2007 after three years of marriage.
Padma has faced both pregnancy and parenthood with a sanguine calm. Even though her career is built around eating amazing food, she hasn’t allowed her pregnancy to be an excuse for gluttony – “I eat the same, just more often” she told People Mag. “You only need 300 more calories. It’s not a reason to pig out.” She also kept the pre-baby shopping to a minimum. “I’m Indian,” she told People. ”So we don’t buy a whole bunch of stuff before the baby is born, because we want to baby to be born first, ‘Not the cart before the horse.’”
Most of all though, she’s made it clear that she’s “extremely happy, and [she] feels really blessed.”
Congratulations, Padma!
