When Isobel the husky first went blind at age four, her owners tried to make this sled dog into a house pet. You might think being a house pet is every dog’s dream job: lots of petting, yummy treats and no cold hours outdoors working for their kibble. Not for Isobel. When she went blind due to detached retina’s, her vets told her family that she would never run again. She refused to eat or drink until she was allowed to rejoin her sled team.
Isobel did just fine pulling her sled, mostly because she has the rest of her team to guide her. Her owners harness her with the rest of the dogs and she follows their lead. Isobel loves to run, and it still thriving five years after she lost her sight. Now, at age nine, Isobel is retiring after a full career.
Having this little trooper in their lives is a constant reminder to Isobel’s owners to “never say never” according to their interview with the Today Show.
