Los Angeles Coroner To Investigate Marie Osmond’s Son’s Death

By Akela Talamasca on March 2nd, 2010

marie-osmond-children-michael-blosil-son-300x257Famous entertainer Marie Osmond lost her 18 year old son Michael Blosil, Friday, February 27th, when he fell fifteen stories from his eighth floor home in Los Angeles. The case was initially determined to be a suicide after a note was found, and it has been revealed that Blosil had a history of battling depression. Michael was one of five adopted children of Osmond and her ex-husband Brian Blosil.

Michael had been in drug rehab numerous times, but coroner reports on the possibility of drugs in his system at the time of his death are inconclusive. It could take up to six weeks for the full toxicology report to reveal the full story.

Mourners are shocked that such a close-knit family — and one that on the surface seems to positive and full of joy — could lose a member to a depression-related death. It’s not always easy for people to appreciate the factors that can lead to true, clinical depression, and exactly how insidious the condition can become. Those who have known loved ones with depression understand that it’s very rarely a case of outside influences being the sole cause, and that many times it can be the result of a chemical imbalance. From the outside looking in, one might seem to have a blessed, happy life, but we can never truly know what demons a person might be wrestling with — or how long they can continue to endure them.

If you or someone you know is struggling with the crippling effects of depression, please consider seeking professional help. There is nothing shameful in a desire to improve the quality of one’s life, and there are numerous programs available that can be of great assistance in your darkest moments. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the Osmond and Blosil families.

My heart goes out to Marie and all the family. Losing a child or anyone close has to be the hardest thing a parent can go through. My thoughts and prays go out to all.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have a son who also battles depression. He is in a hospital now after spending three weeks curled up on a couch. It is so very hard to watch a child live a life in such deep depression. I wish there was more help out there. May God be with you at this very difficult time.
    God Bless!
