Nissan Recall May Affect Your Family

By Bridget Tyler on March 3rd, 2010

Nissan_Pathfinder-MDNissan jumped on the recall bandwagon late Tuesday night. 540,000 Nissan’s have been recalled over faulty brake pedal issues that may also affect the fuel gauge.  The recall covers the Titan, Armada and Infiniti QX56 built from 2005 to 2008, and the Frontier, Pathfinder and Xterra produced between January and March 2006 and between October 2007 and January 2008.  Brake pedals in these cars may have faulty components that can cause the pedals to wobble. According to the AFP, “Vehicles at higher mileage levels may have fuel gauges which incorrectly indicate the amount of fuel in the tank.  This may result in the vehicle running out of fuel while the gauge reads greater than empty.”

Nissan recalled more than 70,000 cars in Japan over engine electric cables just a short while ago.  Most of the vehicles recalled in Japan, 418,865 to be precise, are U.S. models.  Nissan plans to “inspect and, if necessary, repair brake pedal pins and fuel-gauge components on certain trucks and minivans.”

Nissan says that there have been no reported accidents or injuries related to the problems, but, after watching Toyota being blasted in the press and now in the Congress, one can hardly blame them for being proactive.  Toyota sales in the United States have dropped by 8.7% in February from a year earlier.  The company has launched an intense promotional campaign to attempt to recover in the eyes of their fans. The campaign is backed up with huge deals on new cars and 0% financing for buyers willing to look past the stigma, and the growing number of law suits and accidents, and buy a new car.

After listening to so many terrible accidents with cars over the past few weeks, I'm going to wait until the year 2012 or 2013 to buy a new car. Good thing I don't have a car payment.
