March is usually a time for Madness but there is another reason I look forward to March; baseball begins Spring Training. Major League Baseball has begun and every team starts over again at zero. The long journey to the World Series begins in March when players first report to their respective team’s camps and start playing serious baseball again. As a huge baseball fan who grew up in a huge baseball family, this always is a promising time of year because every team has a chance to be good and every player has a chance to make themselves a star.
Spring Training brings about a lot of hope. Teams will bring out rookies and new acquisitions and we get to see them for the first time. It could be the 19 year-old kid trying to fight for a spot on a major league squad or a down and out veteran trying to get back to the big leagues. Whoever it is, they have the opportunity to show what they are made of and be part of the best players. If they are at Spring Training they have a chance to be a big leaguer and that hope will make them try the hardest they ever have. The Yankees may be the current World Champions but will they be able to hold onto that title? If you asked any other team, they would tell you there is no way the Yanks can. That’s what makes Spring Training great, it’s anyone’s ballgame.
You can follow your team through their Web sites, numerous Facebook fan pages or at Major League Baseball’s official website and see what is going on. You can see who is playing well, who is playing bad and who will have a shot at making the Opening Day roster. There is nothing better than watching a young player do what nobody expected them to do and show off their talents well. In Spring Training people’s dreams can be fulfilled or they can be crushed and every fan hopes that their team brings in the right people to win.
So let the preseason commence and bring on the regular season, it only gets better from here for baseball.
