VIDEO: Miley Cyrus Teams Up With … Bret Michaels?

By Bridget Tyler on March 4th, 2010

In one of the more unlikely musical pairings we’ve seen for a while, Miley Cyrus has recorded a new single with Poison’s Bret Michaels. The new song, called “Nothing to Lose,” is getting a lot of air play. It’s also getting some resistance from Miley’s militantly judgmental critics because it includes sexually suggestive lyrics.  Michaels responds to those who think choosing a seventeen year old girl for the song was inappropriate by insisting to People Magazine that he “never sat down and said, ‘Look at the content. Look at the lyrical content…’ There is nothing I have to be defensive about. There’s no reference to her and I. It’s not even a duet! I just thought it was a beautiful song.”

Bret wrote the song several years ago, but only recently played it for Miley while they were in the studio together to record her cover of Poison classic “Every Rose Has Its Thorn.” Bret recalls that “[Miley was] like, ‘This is an incredible song, it’s beautiful. Maybe I could [add] some stuff to it, some hormones.’” He adds that “She was excited that she didn’t have to follow any rules.”

Miley has caught flak several times for being too grown up or too sensual as she tries to transition her career from Disney Channel sweetheart to grown up pop star.  She is proud of her new song: “Bret and I had a great time in the studio together just hanging out and making music.  He’s so passionate about music, and it shows. It’s such a rad collaboration, because it shows that two artists that seem so different on the outside can come together and organically create something that we are both proud of.”
