Child Role Model – Sage Karam, 15

By Jeremy Suede on March 5th, 2010

He may not be old enough to have a drivers license yet but that hasn’t stopped Sage Karam from recently being sponsored by Andretti Autosports (as in Mario Andretti) to compete in the USF 2000 National Championship.  The USF 2000 is a kart racing league sponsored by the Indy Racing League.  Consider it the college level Indy racing league.  Sage is the top Kart racer in the United States and Andretti Autosports wants to bring him up through their ranks to be an Indy Car racer.  How awesome is that for a kid?

Not only has Sage become the best (at his age) for what he does, he is also making strides towards a future of doing what he loves.  He has spent years perfecting his driving skills and that means hours of practicing which is never fun. Sage started when he was four-years-old and just one year later was racing, and winning, competitive races.  Two years after that he won his first national championship and pretty much hasn’t stopped since.

Outside of racing, Sage is a normal kid who loves football, ‘Lil Wayne and video games.  He goes to school and hangs out with friends but when he gets on the track he becomes a speed demon.  His goal in life is to win the Indy 500 race and with the way he’s been driving so far, he’s well on his way.  When asked about the secret to his success, he simple responded “No secrets, just skills! (Big grin) Seriously, we work real hard and race all the time.”  How’s that for confidence?

Watch out for his name in the papers in the upcoming years because I assure you it will be there.  Make sure your kids see that anybody can be the best at something no matter what their age.  And parents, note that even activities like go-kart racing can bring out the best in your child.
