New ‘Iron Man 2′ Trailer!

By Bridget Tyler on March 8th, 2010

“I am the Iron Man weapon, the suit and I are… one.” Tony Stark defends his decision to keep his super suit out of mass production for the US government in the new trailer for “Iron Man 2.”  But don’t worry, the latest installment of the Iron Man series probably isn’t going to turn out to be a meditation on the philosophies of identity and action, of man and his tools.  It’s going to be about how you use the tools to blow stuff up.  If writer/director Jon Faverau happens to be commenting on the military industrial complex and it’s culpability in warfare and suffering around the world with his reformed (ish) playboy weapons specialist Tony Stark, he does it with the absolute aplomb of a master of Hollywood filmmaking.  That means we get to enjoy the ride… and then figure out how to explain to our kids what narcissism means.

But will your kids like “Iron Man 2?” It certainly inspires my own inner ten year old to jump up and down with excitement, so one suspects so.  But, you might want to scope this one out before you take your kids.  The first Iron Man featured some very real world scary sequences – but its grown up scares were just that. Grown up. Mickey Rourke as the electrically charged whip carrying villain of “Iron Man 2″ (named Whiplash) looks like a walking nightmare – and it’s easy to see how he could inspire just that in smaller children.

So check out the new trailer and let us know what you think. The film comes out May 7.
