Sending the kids off to summer camp has been a ritual that has faded recently; computers, television and video games have effectively consumed most of the youth’s attention today.
For these reasons summer camp has been getting a facelift, offering more varied programming and activities to get kids and parents excited about camp again. Instead of going to summer camp to learn how to build a fire and survive the elements, there are now camps that teach completely different subjects while in the camp setting.
A Camp for almost any interest
No matter what your child’s interests are, chances are there’s a camp for them to enjoy. There are camps dedicated to leadership, fashion, acting, water sports, motor sports, dance, and more. There are also golf camps that teach the skills behind the game and fat camp to help people lose weight. Some camps are based on school subjects like science and math and can be for tutoring or expanding on an already strong skill set that your child possesses.
The Different Camp Types
There are a few different camps available to choose from. While some of them are day camps where the campers return home each night to sleep, the majority are overnight camps that last from a weekend to two weeks in length. Before deciding on a summer camp for your children to attend, you need to consider some important things:
• Is your child ready to sleep overnight at camp?
• What is expected from your child’s time at the camp?
• Which camp meshes well with the parent’s work schedules and vacation times?
• Is the camp Coed or gender specific?
• Which camp is the best for your family budget?
You should also spend some time talking to your child to see which camp would interest them the most. Make sure that they’re comfortable with being away from home and sleeping over night before signing them up.
The benefits of going to camp
Having your kids attend a summer camp can be very rewarding for them. They’ll learn new things, make new friends and have memories that can last a life time. They can attend an acting camp or a sports camp and get to spend time improving on the things that they are most interested in. On top of it all they’ll be off the couch and experiencing life instead of staying indoors and wasting away the day.
