So far this year’s NCAA Tournament has been filled with many high profile upsets. For those of you who took the route I did and had the No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks winning the entire tournament, your bracket is pretty useless for now. With all the upsets that have happened, most brackets are as good as trash. But that’s what the tournament is for, to show which teams come to play serious ball and which teams believe all the hype about themselves and don’t take it all entirely serious. It truly is March Madness.
But all of those upsets are old news now. Teams must move on and not get wrapped up in the celebration of an early round upset. Now comes the Sweet 16 where they will prove that they belong among the best and perhaps be this years Cinderella Story. Will they be able to make the Elite 8 and beyond or will their stories end prematurely? These games are worth watching from start to finish because any team can get a surge of energy and make a run. If it’s close, don’t get up, don’t change the channel, don’t do anything but watch because you never know what could happen.
Top 3
1. & 2. NCAA Tournament - Sweet Sixteen (March 25 & 26), Elite 8 (March 27, 28)
As much as I can’t stand regular season college basketball, this week’s games are a must. They are all worthy of being legendary because you never know what can happen. I can’t tell you who to watch in the Elite 8 yet but the game I am going to watch is the No. 12 Cornell Big Red against the No. 1 University of Kentucky Wildcats. Personally I am getting behind the Big Red who not only got the first win for an Ivy League team in many year but are full of smart kids who want to make a statement against the powerhouse schools who generally look down on the Ivy League. First they took out the No. 5 Temple Owls then the No. 4 Wisconsin Badgers, will they be able to continue their tournament story?
The No. 9 University of Northern Iowa Panthers pulled off the biggest upset so far when they knocked out the No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks who many thought would win the whole tournament. Now they will be going up against another team who pulled off an upset in the second round, the No. 5 Michigan State Spartans beat the No. 4 Maryland Terrapins. Now the Panthers will be able to prove if they were just a fluke or if they really are an elite team against The Spartans. Watch their game on the 26th @ 9:37 pm
3. NBA – Denver Nuggets at Boston Celtics – March 24 @ 7 pm
The Celtics are finally starting to play as a unit again and with their Big 3 (Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen) getting healthier and healthier each day they are looking to make a strong push into the playoffs. The Denver Nuggets, lead by Carmelo Anthony, Kenyon Martin and Chauncey Billups, are a powerful team that could take down the mighty Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference. They are each going to be in the playoffs and could possibly meet again in the Finals so each knows that home court advantage and the ever important confidence are at stake. They will each go all-out and play with high intensity to try and win this game so they can secure each.
