23rd Annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards Recap

By Bridget Tyler on March 29th, 2010

It’s time for slime! The Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards rolled out the orange carpet on Saturday, giving kids across the nation the chance to weigh in on their favorites for the year and drenching celebrities of all stripes in gooey green slime.  Presenter Kevin James, a first time Kid’s Choice host, conducted the mad cap exercise from the Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.

A first this year – both the President and First Lady of the United States were nominated for an awards.  Michelle Obama took home the Big Help Award for her work with kids nutrition but the First Couple lost out to Jacob and Bella of the “Twilight” movie and book series (aka Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart) for Cutest Couple’  Interestingly enough, Jacob/Lautner is not actually Bella/Stewart’s primary love interest in the popular teen series – that would be Edward, played by Robert Pattinson.  But apparently the kids of America think that Jacob and Bella make a better pair since Edward and Bella were also nominated for the honor and lost out.

The biggest winner last night may have been 13 year old Megan Call of Gilford, Connecticut.  She won the “All Access Sweepstakes with Justin Bieber” over 500,000 other youngsters.  That meant Call got to met Bieber, attend pre-show rehearsals and walk with him on the orange carpet.

Bieber performed in the show, along with Miranda Cosgrove and Rihanna.  Poof and Foop of “The Fairly Odd Parents” also put in an appearance, as well as Fanboy and Chum Chum and the Penguins of Madagascar.  Fred Figglehorn (Lucas Cruikshank) also put in an appearance. Olympian speed skater Apolo Ohno was catapulted into the show’s trademark green slime with a little help from the WWE’s John Cena. A host of other big time celebs were slimed, including Tina Fey and Steve Carrell, and generally everyone had a gooey good time.
