5 Year Old Joshua ‘Rizzo’ Sacco Inspires Boston Red Sox

By Bridget Tyler on April 6th, 2010

Joshua “Rizzo” Sacco gave a rousing rendition of Kurt Russell’s  locker room speech to his hockey team in the film “Miracle” on Sunday night, inspiring his beloved Red Sox’s to a 9-7 victory over the Yankees.  Sounds like a dream come true.  A 5 year old being able to stand up in front of a full stadium and deliver the rousing speech perfectly, well, that almost sounds like a miracle.

Joshua memorized the speech at age 4 after watching “Miracle” 150 plus times.  The film is a true story about the 1980 U.S. Olympic men’s hockey team’s famously unexpected victory over the Soviet team that stars Kurt Russell.

Joshua, nicknamed “Rizzo” after the “Miracle” team’s captain Mike Eruzione, memorized the speech straight from the movie – he couldn’t read when his father first filmed him reciting it.  That video hit the internet and before long little Joshua was an internet star, ending up on USA Today and the “Ellen” show as well as blogs everywhere.  His interpretation is spot on and completely hilarious.  The fact that he adapted it for the Yankee – Red Sox game on Sunday, replacing “Soviets” with “Yankees” – made it even more adorable.
