Sorry about the delay folks but don’t fret, the delay won’t affect your potential memories. The NBA playoffs are in the middle of the first round and already the story lines are intriguing. The biggest factor this year seems to be injuries. Almost every team at this point in the season has players with various injuries and ailments but it’s the teams that fight through the pain that will make it the farthest.
If basketball isn’t your thing then the NHL playoffs are your answer. The first round of their playoffs will be wrapping up this week and while I am not a big fan of hockey, I am a fan of playoff hockey. The hits are harder and every goal is hard fought. Enjoy them while they last because before you know it some team will be hoisting Lord Stanley’s cup and a new champion will be crowned.
And even if hockey isn’t your thing, the NFL is having their draft this week and for the first time ever it will be broken down into four days with Thursday being the only thing worth watching for the average fan. Watch and see who will be first and you will be the surprise pick. You never know what can happen on draft day.
So here are my picks for this week. While none of them are specific games and rather a series of games, all of them are worth watching because of their potential. Enjoy!
Top 3
1. NBA Playoffs First Round – Denver Nuggets vs. Utah Jazz – April 21, 23, 25
Unfortunately the Chicago Bulls/Cleveland Cavaliers or Miami Heat/Boston Celtics series are not being as competitive as we’d have hoped. Luckily the Nuggets and Jazz are supplying enough drama to maintain us. The Utah Jazz have been decimated by injury over the past few weeks and are down to a skeleton crew for a team but they fought back in Game 2and evened up the series. The Nuggets are a very strong team but are without their head coach, George Karl, who is battling cancer. He could be back to coach if the Nuggets make it out of the first round though. The Jazz want to win so they can get back to full strength and show what they are really made of when it counts but the Nuggets want to win for their coach to show that they can battle and win too. Each team has so much to play for and will fight tooth-and-nail to continue.
2. NHL Playoffs First Round – San Jose Sharks vs. Colorado Avalanche – April 22, 24
For the past few seasons the Sharks have made it through the regular season with the best record in the league only to be outed in the first rounds of the playoffs. Any one of those players will tell you they would gladly give up a few regular season wins for those precious playoff wins. This year they have done it again and were the best in the league. But they also seem to yet again be floundering in the first round to the Avalanche. As of now the series is tied 2-2 and the Avalanche have hope. So how will the Sharks respond? The Avalanche are playing with heart and the Sharks are playing with a monkey on their back, which will come out on top?
3. NFL – Player Draft First Round – April 22 @ 7:30
The first round of the draft costs NFL teams more money than most small countries ever have. The top players are paid millions upon millions of dollars before they ever take a snap in an NFL game and more often than not some of those new millionaires will be complete busts as pro players. Will it be Sam Bradford, Ndamukong Suh (pronounced “En-dom-ah-ken Soo”) or some other surprise pick the St. Louis Rams take first? Being drafted in the first round of the draft is a huge honor and if you are “lucky” enough to be drafted first then the amount of pressure is intense. With a few big names in the draft you will want to watch the first round because undoubtedly one of them will be a star. You will want to watch to see what they looked like before the wear and tear of a football player’s life gets to them.
