RECALL – 217,000 LaJobi Graco Drop Side Cribs Recalled

By Jeremy Suede on April 30th, 2010

Crib Recall LaJobiGraco branded drop side cribs made by LaJobi are being recalled because they break and cause the child to become entrapped, leading to suffocation.  The drop side hardware can break, allowing the drop side to detach from the crib. When this happens a hazardous gap is created between the drop side and the crib mattress and toddlers can become wedged or entrapped, posing a risk of suffocation and strangulation. In addition, children can fall from the cribs when the drop side detaches or fails to lock.

There have been more than 95 reports of the cribs breaking, two incidents in which children became entrapped in the gap and six incidents of children falling out of the crib.  So far there has been only one report of an injury, one of the children received a concussion after falling out.

I am a very short person who got this dropside crib so I could safely get my daughter in and out and now they want to take that feature away! I am fine with that if they would compensate us for it so that I can buy a new crib that would not be dangerous. They told me the only thing they will do is give me the kit to make the dropside immobile but then I can’t use it at all. Anyone else have this problem??

I am the mother-in-law of a short mom. My daughter-in-law has been battling with Lajobi every since the recall notification while our baby boy sleeps in a pack-n-play! We measured and found a fixed side crib on their website that would work for her. They wouldn’t let her have that one, but romised to ship another one that was shorter and would work for her. She just contacted them today and they still have not shipped the crib!
