Kate Gosselin’s New Book is a Bust

By Bridget Tyler on May 1st, 2010

Kate Gosselin may have over stayed her welcome in popular culture.  Her latest book, “I Just Want You to Know: Letters to My Kids on Love, Faith, and Family” has sold just 10,084 copies according to national book sales tracker Bookscan.  The title debuted at #11 on the New York Times’ non-fiction bestseller list, and at #103 on the USA Today’s bestsellers chart.  By Thursday afternoon, its Amazon.com rank was just #862.

In spite of Gosselin’s almost over kill promotion of the tome, Jim Milliot, business and news director of book-industry magazine Publishers Weekly, tells UsMagazine.com that the numbers “nowhere near a blockbuster” and “not that impressive.” The famous reality TV mom’s first two books, “Multiple Blessings”  and “Eight Little Faces” both climbed to number five on the New York Times’ list.  ”Multiple Blessings” sold 523,000 copies in 2009.

Milliot tells Us that he thinks it unlikely “I Just Want You to Know” will crack 500,000 copies.  He thinks Gosselin will have, “a very tough time getting to 50,000, let alone 100,000… I think it will be a disappointment in the end.”

This lukewarm reception, paired with a fairly disastrous turn on “Dancing with the Stars” in which Gosselin’s temper attracted more attention than her dancing makes us wonder whether it’s time for the reality mama to hang up for spurs and spend sometime with her famously numerous kids. Given the amount of attention Gosselin’s name can still draw on the internet, and her new show,  it seems like fame is still going to be a difficult temptation to give up.

How can the fact that Kate never wrote her first book, and the second is only pictures of her kids, with passages of scripture. Give it up Kate. Thank God, they decided not to have her do a cookbook.
