RECALL – More Blinds Added to List of Strangulation Hazards

By Jeremy Suede on May 6th, 2010

Blair has voluntarily announced a recall of all their Roman shades and roll-up blinds because they pose a strangulation hazard to small children.  The C.P.S.C. previously announced a recall of numerous manufacturers because of the same risk and now Blair products have been added to that list.  They are placing ALL of their Roman shade and roll-up blinds on the list and anyone who purchased one of their products should stop use immediately.

More than 5,000 products were sold in retail stores, catalogs and on the web between April 2007 and January 2010 for between $15 and $65.  Strangulations can occur when a child places their neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around their neck.  Here is a list of products and their product numbers:

  • Standard Roman Shade507591, 507601, 507611, 507621, 507631, 507641, 507651, 507661
  • Roman Shades with Tassels520871, 520872, 520873, 520874
  • Duppioni Roman Shades508361, 508362, 508363

Consumers should immediately stop using the Roman shades and contact the Window Covering Safety Council  at their website or at 800-506-4636 for a free repair kit.
