Lettuce Recall Details: 19 People Sick, 3 Life-Threatening from E.coli

Lettuce that has been sold in 23 states is being recalled today after at least 19 people have become ill, 3 with life-threatening symptoms.

A press release issued by Freshway Foods, Sidney, Ohio reveals that the recall was voluntary and targets romaine lettuce products that were sold to wholesalers, food service outlets and several in-store salad bars and delis.

According to the release, the products were sold in in the following states: Alabama, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

The recall was issued after E.Coli was found in an unopened bag of Freshway Foods shredded lettuce. The E.Coli was found by the New York state Public Health Laboratory.

If you’ve come in contact with any of the products issued in the recall and are experiencing symptoms of E.Coli infection (diarrhea, abdominal cramps etc) you should contact your doctor immediately.
