New Mario Game Getting Perfect Scores from Reviewers

By Bridget Tyler on May 24th, 2010

Super Mario Galaxy 2The critics agree – Super Mario Galaxy 2 is one of the best-ever in the long running game series.  Mario games always score high, whether that’s the games rock solid designs or just the unstoppable nostalgia factor of one of the original console games for the late 20 somethings who are so often responsible for such reviews, the fact that this new outing is scoring even higher than the rest is a coup.

IGN weighed in first, giving the game a perfect 10, a score they haven’t doled out since 2008 for Metal Gear Solid 4.  IGN seems to think it’s also accessible to all:

“It might be designed to be accessible to anyone of any skill level, but it’s the hardcore completionists who really get the reward” IGN said, concluding “this is the absolute pinnacle of Mario gameplay: everything that makes a Mario game so incredibly fun is represented here.”

Other reviewers don’t necessarily agree.  CVG, particularly, thinks this one may just be too tricky for the average user.

“We can’t see many of the majority of Wii’s audience making it to the end of the game,” CVG said, “let alone the super-tough secret stages beyond that…good news for the hardcore then, but not necessarily for the spouses and relatives who enjoyed the original Galaxy.”

Regardless of reservations about the game’s toughness, so far no critic has given it lower than a 9 out of 10.  This seems like a guaranteed family pleaser, and one that it may take your little gamer more than a day to get tired of.  Music to most parent’s ears.

Just remember, don’t let them fixate too much.  A hardy dose of the real world is a necessity for a healthy kid, not to mention a great way to hone the reflexes that gamers value so much.  So if your little one doesn’t want to put down the controller just reassure them, their game scores will thank them for a little real world play time.
