She may be living every other teenage girl in America’s fantasy every time she dons her vampire costume and steps on to the set of the “Twilight” series, but Dakota Fanning is just trying to be a regular girl. The preternaturally well adjusted child star turned teen actress is doing everything she can to balance her acting career with the activities she wants to be a part of at her L.A. high school. That includes making varsity on the cheerleading squad and going to prom.
“No matter how old people are, they remember homecoming,” Fanning told Teen Vogue of her choice to pursue a somewhat-normal education. “They remember their senior prom. And I really wanted that.”
Fanning may be having a normal run at high school, but she’s also starring in a hit series, friends with Kristen Stewart (the actress who plays Bella, to the non-”Twilight”-obsessed) and pulling off gritty, star making roles in indie flicks like “The Runaways.”
Dakota’s reasons for doing the “Twilight” movies, which are not exactly an acting challenge, are just as normal as her high school goals – it sounded like fun. She told Teen Vogue, “I read all four Twilight books in one week. It’s such a phenomenon, and I wanted to be able to say that I was a part of it.”
And, just like any other teenage girl, she likes hanging out with her friends. She and Stewart have become close between “The Runaways” and the “Twilight” movies, so working together is great, but Fanning finds being evil to her friend, which is all part of the script for “Twilight” a bit odd.
“I’ve never been such an evil character, and because I do know Kristen so well, being mean to her was really weird. It’s like, Sorry, dude!” She told Teen Vogue.
It’s always nice to see a Hollywood teen who’s so normal and healthy.
