We’ve heard a lot of child bullying stories over the years but a “new” technique called sack tapping has many parents outraged.
So what exactly is sack tapping, you ask? It’s fairly self-explanatory actually. Basically, the new form of bullying consists of young boys hitting each other in their crotches unexpectedly. Worried about long-term damage? So were we.
A news report this week outlines the story of David Gibbons, a 14-year-old boy from Minnesota who was forced to undergo emergency surgery to remove his testicle after becoming the target of a sack tapping mission.
Gibbons was in the midst of switching classes when another boy approached him and unexpectedly punch him in the testicle. David woke up in the early morning hours in excruciating pain and asked his mom to take him to the hospital. He had his testicle amputated.
We were surprised to hear that sack bullying is not actually a new phenomenon amongst teens. Dr. Scott Wheeler, the pediatric urologist who treated the boy, reveals that he performs testicle amputation surgery three to four times a year as a result of this “game.”
There are hundreds of videos online outlining and capturing the bullying on tape – we’re sure you can find them if you want to see what the game is all about. We will not be posting them on Kidglue as we, in no way, want to give these delinquents any more attention than they’ve already received.
Have you heard of sack tapping – and are you worried about your children?
