Vacuum Recall – Hoover Recalls 108,000 Vacuum Cleaners For Fire & Shock Hazards

vacuum recallThe U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission along with Hoover Inc., have issued a recall for more than 108,000 upright vacuum cleaners because they pose a fire and shock hazards.  The Hoover WindTunnel T-Series bagless upright vacuum cleaners with the cord rewind feature have faulty cords that are not properly secured.  They cord could come loose and this could cause a fire or electrical shock.  Hoover has received three reports of minor burns to carpet and furniture and one report of a minor burn to a consumer’s hand.  Consumers are being urged to stop use immediately and contact Hoover to receive free repair.

The affected models numbers are listed below.  The model number and manufacturing code can be found on a label on the lower rear part of the vacuum cleaner.

  • UH70110
  • UH70120
  • UH70200
  • UH70205
  • UH70210

The manufacturing codes would end with one of these sequences:

  • H09A
  • I09A
  • J09A
  • K09A

Vacuums with the manufacturing code KO9A followed by a green dot are not included in this recall.  If they have any other manufacturing code or if the item was sold after November 2009 they are also not included in this recall.  These cleaners were sold in department stores and retailers nationwide and online from August 2009 through May 2010 for between $100 and $160.

    Please notify me if there is any recall of my Hoover Savvy upright vacuum, model U8173-900 Series AO 12.0
    I have had it awhile but used it very seldom. The on/off “lever” seems to short out often while I am vacuuming so that is very unsatisfactory.
