Electronic Arts is giving the world a glimpse of the latest “Harry Potter” game – “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1.” Due to be released in tandem with the first of the two part series finale, which is hitting theaters this fall, this game is definitely on the grown up side.
Much like the final book was, and we presume, the final pair of movies will be, the “Deathly Hallows” game is a far cry from the innocent fun of the early entries of this multi-platform franchise. Unlike previous “Harry” games, which were adventure games set on the grounds of Hogwarts, this is something more akin to a third person shooter. Players won’t set foot in the Hogwarts campus this time, instead they’ll play along with Harry as he searches for Lord Voldemort’s deadly Horcruxes, using spells as weapons to protect Harry and his friends from the myriad of bad guys who pursue them in Voldemort’s name.
“We believe we are creating a Harry Potter game that the HD console gaming generation will appreciate and enjoy,” Jonathan Bunney, VP, Head of Production at game developer EA Bright Light told Yahoo’s Plugged In. “We have built new technology specifically to allow us to prove that magic is a truly potent force and, in this game, players will need to use all their skills if they want to survive.”
So is “Deadly Hallows – Part 1″ really appropriate for kids? No ratings have been released yet, but the fact that this latest installment is being compared to “Gears of War” and “Modern Warfare” means that this game will at least be the sort of thing you want to check out yourself before you turn your kids loose on it. If you want some more innocent, “Harry Potter” fare for young eyes, check out “Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4″ which is due out in the end of June.
