Demi Lovato is perhaps best known for her roles as Mitchie Torres in Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2: Final Jam, and as Sonny Munroe in Sunny With A Chance.
She’s also an actress and a singer-songwriter who is using her star power to draw attention to something important facing kids and teens today – bullying.
Hollywire reports that Demi has been working closely with teensagainstbullying.org, to put an end to bullying in schools. Her inspiration? Demi has an 8-year old sister, Madison, who she says is, “getting to that age where she could start becoming insecure. I want to be able to help other girls around her age come into their own with a strong confidence in their skin, their size, who they are and everything about themselves.”
According to Wikipedia, Demi has also experienced firsthand the painful effects of bullying. In an interview with Ellen Degeneres, she talks about being bullied in the seventh grade. Demi said, “The bullying was so bad that one day, in a fit of frustration and distress, she requested her mom give her a home-schooled education.”
Now that Demi has found fame, she strives to use her power to reach young girls around the world. She says, “The way I want to be a role model is not by making mistakes but by helping people overcome things from the obstacles that I’ve overcome. That’s how I want to use my voice and that’s how I want to be a role model.”
